{"id":530,"date":"2025-11-29T12:07:48","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T12:07:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digespedi.us.edu.pl\/?p=530"},"modified":"2026-01-11T12:17:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-11T12:17:37","slug":"conference-presentation-on-modern-computational-tools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digespedi.us.edu.pl\/index.php\/2025\/11\/29\/conference-presentation-on-modern-computational-tools\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference presentation on modern computational tools"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>At the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uni.lodz.pl\/aktualnosc\/szczegoly\/rzeczywistosc-okiem-humanisty-granice-i-przemiany-innosc-doswiadczenie-innowacja-w-perspektywie-humanistycznej\">Granice i przemiany: Inno\u015b\u0107, Do\u015bwiadczenie, Innowacja w perspektywie humanistycznej<\/a>&#8221; [Limits and transformation: Otherness, Experience, Innovation from a humanistic perspective] conference in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, Poland, <a href=\"https:\/\/digespedi.us.edu.pl\/index.php\/agnieszka-ziora\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"64\">Agnieszka Ziora<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/digespedi.us.edu.pl\/index.php\/dominik-gegotek\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"162\">Dominik G\u0119gotek<\/a> presented a paper titled <em><strong>Modern tools for analyzing corpora &#8211; limitations and possibilities<\/strong><\/em>. Their presentation focused on a comparison of <strong>computational analysis<\/strong> software. The authors discussed existing solutions and presented examples of their use along with their strengths and weaknesses based on the authors&#8217; research. Tools such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laurenceanthony.net\/software\/antconc\/\">AntConc<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/clarin-pl.eu\/tools\/emotagger\">Emotagger<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liwc.app\/\">LIWC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/neon.niederlandistik.fu-berlin.de\/en\/textstat\/\">TextSTAT 3<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lancsbox.lancs.ac.uk\/\">#LancsBox X<\/a> were compared. Most of the presented examples were related to research on <strong>citizen science<\/strong> discourse in online forums, which is an area that gained popularity in recent years. The main limitations of the programs were: a slow perfomance on large corpora and a difficulty with retaining the context of the analysed texts. This aligns with the previous research on the topic of corpus linguistics (eg. Gillings et al., 2023, pp. 45-47). As a possible solution <a href=\"https:\/\/digespedi.us.edu.pl\/index.php\/dominik-gegotek\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"162\">Dominik G\u0119gotek<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/digespedi.us.edu.pl\/index.php\/agnieszka-ziora\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"64\">Agnieszka Ziora<\/a> proposed their planned <strong>open-source analysis tool<\/strong> based on <strong>database practices<\/strong> from other fields of science. This solution, could in theory improve the speed of searches and would alow for searching a <strong>corpus <\/strong>while retaining the context of the texts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>References:<br>Gillings, M., Mautner, G., &amp; Baker, P.
