At the AAAL 2025 Conference in Denver, Krystyna Warchał presented a paper titled Considering the broader public: Responsibility and credibility in communicating science to diverse audiences. The study examined issues of responsibility and credibility in science communication by researchers and science journalists focusing on the online uptake of the results of the third clinical trial for an experimental Alzheimer’s drug. The paper addressed the following research questions: What types of transformations occur when research results are reported to diverse audiences, and how do these transformations affect the information conveyed? How is credibility constructed? How is the shift from reporting results to evaluating them marked in media texts?

The findings revealed selective transfer of information, changes to the strength of knowledge claims, and limited opportunities for the public to verify the accuracy of the reported content. The paper also highlights a common media practice of linking to other articles on the same platform rather than to citeable scientific or public documents, a practice that promotes the platform and its content but does little to support independent verification of information.
