We are pleased to announce that our members, Agnieszka Ziora and Dominik Gęgotek have just published a book chapter titled Analysing Values and Emotions in the Face of Modern Changes – from Psychological Categorization Systems to Computational Linguistic Analysis.

The article examines computational tools used for analysis of values, emotions, and sentiment in text, with a focus on assessing their accuracy. It introduces EmoTagger as the primary tool for this study, aiming to evaluate its effectiveness in linguistic analysis. The research describes theoretical frameworks (e.g., Appraisal Theory, Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions) and uses practical methodologies, including manual and automated analyses, to compare the results provided by EmoTagger with those from human evaluations. The findings reveal that EmoTagger achieves an accuracy rate of approximately 64.5-82.5%, averaging up to 80% in certain cases. While the tool demonstrates high correctness overall, it struggles with complex sentences and titles.
