Dominik Gęgotek is a Ph.D student at the Doctoral School of University of Silesia in Katowice. His Ph.D dissertation is entitled “Hedging in Citizen Science discourse: Negotiating contributions to GitHub open-source projects.” One of the aims of his project is the creation of a large corpus of citizen science online communication and a tool for corpus analysis in cooperation with Agnieszka Ziora, MA.
His research interests include:
- pragmatics,
- politeness and impoliteness strategies,
- online communication discourse,
- citizen science,
- corpus linguistics.
He is a member of a research club NEOlinguists and the DIGESPEDI research team. He also took part in several scientific conferences including International Young Linguists’ Conference ATENA 2025, Oriental Meetings in Sosnowiec and IX Konferencja Międzynarodowa Uczelni Lingwistyczno-Technicznej w Przasnyszu, presenting topics connected with hedging expressions and corpus analysis. Additionally, he has experience in software creation, programming and computer science as he graduated from technical secondary school and holds the title of an IT technician.
